Old fence

split-railed splinters in a
wood
built by hunters in their restlessness,
built in little sleep
Now climbing over, railed bullets from
wooden guns
Much like old paintbrushes
in old paint
cans
Dripping into a forest for dried
up food
Color autumn clothes to camouflage from
trees seeking
to bare
Yelping dogs
off leashes, stiffen up where
bristles harden
to point
Hunters fingers calloused, hard from
painting targets
on any
moving thing
Triggers pulled
After, aim and shoot
Old stones turned over in streams
to wet
their sights
Apple orchard, shoot the
apple off
Falls into
cans
They harden.

Split-railed splinters in clothing.
